Last month Bellcate School hosted a workshop from Emily Mazzulla, PHD. Emily is the Associate Director of Connecting Cultures/New England Survivors Of Torture And Trauma. Emily discussed national and local refugee resettlement data, reviewed cultural considerations when working with diverse populations, tips for working with interpreters, and prioritizing needs when working with resettled children and families.
This training shed light on the many struggles that New American families face when they arrive and settle here. Emily was able to give us practical advice as educators and case managers for helping to guide these families to various resources and to become more aware of how to better serve this growing population of students. Her lecture was both informative and inspiring! We look forward to Emily’s follow up presentation and will make the date known to our extended members of the Bellcate community via our website.
