On Monday, October 28th a group of foreign exchange students from Belgium and Denmark, accompanied by their Essex High School classmates, came to Bellcate to help staff prep pumpkins. This year Bellcate students will carve pumpkins to donate to Cilley Hill’s Pumpkin Glow walk in Jericho. The exchange students showed up to a new place, rolled their sleeves back and got elbow deep in pumpkin guts. We had several stations in assembly style, all working together to get the job done. Within an hour and a half our multinational team capped and gutted over 40 pumpkins as well as separated and washed countless pumpkin seeds for baking.

“We would have been here half the night without them,” explained Saben Littlefield, Bellcate Operations Director. “They were up for the challenge and really seemed to enjoy themselves.” With the music cranked everyone got into the spirit of completing our messy task. After the exchange students finished helping they each carved a pumpkin of their own to donate to the walk or bring home. “The pumpkins are all so beautiful. I love mine,” commented Sanaa, Belgium Exchange Student. Bellcate School sends a big Thank you to our Volunteers. We hope to see you again next year!
