With winter just around the corner, Bellcate School is busy, busy, busy preparing our farm for the long and cold months ahead. One of the most important tasks is to put the hay up. This year we broke our standing record. 20 students and staff+130 bales of hay+30 minutes= A job finished and well done. It is always a bit daunting when we see that full hay wagon pull in, but not for this group! This year the positive attitudes, teamwork and work ethic were seamless. Several students were runners from the pile, another group made an assembly line to the stairs, a couple of folks were stationed on the stairs, and Nikki and Brooke stacked like pros in the loft. With the barn radio blasting tunes to keep us inspired, this group found the flow of how to work hard with a purpose and have fun doing it. We washed off with a garden hose at the end and everyone joked about #hayrash, one student even asking for that t-shirt to be sold at our school store (that is happening!) Having a sense of humor is a key factor in developing resilience. So, kudos to this group for their combined effort, shared experience and super positive outcome. And while we sat on the stoop eating our maple creemees at Palmers, our group laughed and shared moments from the experience turning them into a collective memory that we won’t soon forget.
