August 2nd marked the last day of Bellcate School’s 2019 summer program. Every year we celebrate our final day with a big party and this year was no exception. Teachers and students loaded up the cars Friday morning and then we headed north in a convoy to the State Park in Grand Isle for a day of festivities. The weather cooperated this year; a beautiful sunny day with a cool breeze.

About 60 of us descended upon the park to a very welcoming State Park Staff. We always have music in tow with DJ Jeff Springer who blessed us with his Super Sounds! Troy and Morgan also rallied to set up an African drumming circle. A group of enthusiastic swimmers and paddle boarders took to the lake while others partook in a whole host of field games; can jam, corn hole, spike ball, football, volleyball and soccer. We had a blast! No party at Bellcate is without a very coordinated effort related to food. Jac on the grill and Marta setting up the multitude of staff prepared dishes made for a very yummy spread.

Each year we wrap up our final day with a recognition ceremony for our summer interns and summer staff. A great big thank you to Tinga Adiang (8 summers) Sean Springer (7 summers), Ashel Adiang (3 summers), Kayla Adiang (2 summers), Josh Springer (2 summers) and Liz Beshaw (first summer). Our summer interns and summer staff always bring a level of fresh enthusiasm and perspective to our school. We appreciate you. We will miss you and We will see you next summer!

Our final day was also an opportunity to reflect on the summer memories of 2019. They included…
