Eric completed his first year of wrestling with style this past weekend at the state meet at Spaulding High School, finishing 3rd in his 195 weight class. Eric, who going into the tournament held a perfect 15-0 record, suffered his first JV loss of the season in his first match of the day. “The kid he lost to was a very skilled wrestler” Bellcate’s Athletic Director Jamie Moore commented. “Eric had wrestled him in two varsity matches prior to this tournament and had lost them both. Eric knew he had his hands full. The kid looked like he had been wrestling for years. Eric gave him a good match, and showed great sportsmanship in defeat,” added Moore. Eric went on to win his next 2 matches, compiling a 2-1 overall record at the tournament, earning him a 3rd place medal which he proudly displayed at school Monday morning. Additionally, 4 of Eric’s Bellcate classmates made the trek to Barre to show support. “Going 17-1 in his first year of wrestling is pretty incredible. We are all very proud of Eric and are looking forward to seeing him back on the mats next year.” explains Moore. Congrats Eric!
