After a tough loss to CVU, the Bellcate Gold basketball team has strung together their first two game winning streak, defeating BFA St. Albans and Mount Mansfield High school this past week. The Bulldogs have put on some offensive clinics of late, entering a new member to Bellcate’s all time scoring list. Callie, who has dominated on the glass for the Bulldogs, notched her first two points of the season early in last Friday’s overtime thriller against St. Albans. Callie finished the game with 8 points! “Callie has taken her game to a whole other level the past couple of weeks” says coach Jac. “Her hard work in practice has paid dividends, and it is showing in games.” While Callie had one of the hot hands for the Bulldogs, another Bulldog stepped up for his team in a big way. Down by 2 with 12 seconds left, Abdullahi dribbled the ball up the court and managed to get fouled with 7 seconds remaining in regulation. Abdullahi went to the free throw line and sunk both shots to force overtime. “There is a reason his nickname is Big Shot” said coach Jamie after the game. “He missed a couple free throws earlier in the game, but I knew since the game was on the line, and he was shooting, we would be going into OT.” added Moore. Marissa, Isaiah, Alex, and Marcus joined in on the fun with preserving the impressive road win for the Bulldogs.

In the second game of the winning streak, the Bulldogs were back at their home court to play a talented MMU team. Once again, the Bulldogs were on fire on the offensive end. Marissa, Marcus, Callie, Isaiah, and Abdullahi all scored in the Bulldogs win. Marcus, who has been slowed somewhat by a lingering sprained ankle, had his best game of the year, tallying 8 points, and hauling down a game high 14 rebounds. “Marcus was a beast out there today” says coach Matt after the game. “He was so active on both sides of the ball. We will need that type of activity from him for the rest of the year to get to Patrick Gym.” added Matt. Isaiah, who didn’t miss a shot at practice a few hours before the game, drained a three pointer late in the third quarter that started a huge run for the Bulldogs. “What was that!?!” screamed Heather in excitement after the shot, and then Isaiah did it again! Marissa and Callie both added 4 more points to their scoring totals for the year, and both played superb defense. “We have been working on boxing out and having active hands during practice, and both girls have demonstrated that they are not messing around defensively when it comes to games.” adds coach Jac.

The Bellcate Bulldogs will be back in action next Tuesday April 17th at the Essex Alliance Church. Doors will open to the public at 3, with tip off at 3:30. This game will have a special halftime ceremony, in honor of Bellcate superstar, Abdullahi. This will be Abdullahi’s last regular season game at home, and we will be paying homage to his illustrious career during halftime. Abdullahi, who has been a staple in Bellcate’s basketball program since he arrived on campus in 2013, is only 4 points shy of reaching 1,000 points for his career. Please come out and support the Bulldogs, and come celebrate the career of Mr. “Big Shot.” Go Bulldogs!
